Educator
Year round position with benefits

POSITION DESCRIPTION: This position will be an important member of a dynamic team of educators who design and instruct a variety of agricultural and environmental programs for youth and adults.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Work with the education team to develop, teach and promote an understanding of food, farming, and nutrition education in formal and non-formal settings
  • Teach and support all education programs including field trips, off-site and outreach programs, professional development, summer camp, family programs, and special events
  • Support Work and Learn program by supervising interns and mentoring apprentices
  • Participate in the evaluation and documentation of programs
  • Work with education team on continually improving programs
  • Support the Children’s Farm Yard programs and farm animal care

COMPENSATION AND HOURS:
Salary: Commensurate with experience
Benefits: Health benefits, paid vacation
Hours: Full-time, including some weekends and evenings and some travel
Start Date: Immediately

QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:
We are looking for an individual who is knowledgeable, passionate and experienced in agricultural and environmental education. The candidate will have a strong background in agriculture, nutrition and a love of food. They will ideally have Masters Degree. Must have reliable transportation.

School Field Trip Coordinator and Educator

Cheese and Catalog Manager
Year round position with benefits

HOURS: Typically M-F 45 hours a week; occasional weekends and evenings; six days a week with longer hours from mid-November through December; some travel required throughout the year.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION: Manage the cheese sales and distribution operations as well as the mail order catalog within the mission of Shelburne Farms.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Overall sales and marketing strategy and execution
    o Emphasize Vermont, New England, and Mid-Atlantic distribution
  • Wholesale/distributor cheese business
    o Provide Farm support to local retailers
    o New and existing account strategy and execution
  • Assist with catalog design and content
    o Emphasize Shelburne Farms’ mission, and cross-market all Farm divisions
    o Make add/drop product recommendations including packages
    o Recommend pricing
  • Mailing list / E-Business strategy
    o Develop appropriate levels of contact and minimize our footprint
  • Mail order management software system and database
    o Utilize available tools to minimize administration
  • Corporate holiday gift business
    o Market, execute, and thank
  • Forecast and purchase non-cheese mail order inventory
  • Fulfillment of ongoing orders
    o Oversee the cut, wrap, and shipping operation
    o Holiday season staffing and training
  • Budget preparation and cost control
  • Inventory management

QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:
• Smart, creative, very positive attitude
• Sales experience is preferred
• Firm understanding of the value of locally produced food
• Working knowledge of MS Office tools
