The Shelburne Explorers 4-H club provides an opportunity for children ages 8 to 17 to “learn by doing”—the motto adopted by 4-H club members. Different club  “teams” choose topics of interest that they investigate through projects, presentations, and study. Currently four teams are pursuing their interest in horses, insects, sewing, and calves. In addition, all members belong to a community service team, giving back to the Shelburne community through various service projects. The crew meets weekly at Shelburne Farms, which donates the space and the staff time of 4-H co-coordinator and Shelburne Farms educator, Susie Marchand. 

4-H is a federal program cooperatively developed by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the Extension system, and local communities. The mission of all 4-H programs is to help young people become self-directing, productive and contributing members of society by learning practical skills and developing leadership potential.
